Aftercare

Internal
• Oral piercings usually swell, rinse with ice water and apply ice as needed to reduce swelling
this will help bring your swelling down after 3-5 days
• Rinse your mouth after meals, with either BIOTENE or ORAL-B alcohol free mouthwashes. Rinsing
your mouth out with Saltwater will also help your piercing to heal, this should be done twice a
day. (Same mix as above.)
• Reduce smoking to a minimum while the piercing is healing; not smoking at all is better. Try
not to eat any spicy or hot foods for 2 weeks and this goes for not drinking alcohol aswell.
(Mainly Beer, Rum & Whiskey.)
• Try to avoid oral contact with anyone, that means no kissing or oral sex for 4-6 weeks.
• Get a new toothbrush.

External
• Approx. 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 200ml / cup of water. This method works best when used with
hot but not boiling water from the kettle.
• Soak a cotton gauze with the saline solution and place on the piercing for 5 minutes ( until it
starts to cool down ), This helps to open the pores of the skin.
• Pour the remainder into a clean container that is just big enough to cover the area ( eg Navel/mug, Eyebrow/long contact lense case or an eggcup ). Soak the piercing for 10 minutes, making sure the water is warm at all times. This draws any of the impurities or trapped fluid out of the piercing. Your antibacterial solution should then be used to clean the area. This can be Benzalkonium Chloride on a cotton bud or antibacterial soap which should then be rinsed off with CLEAN water thoroughly. This can be repeated a few times a
